My mom teaches piano lessons, and the other day, someone left a book on our front porch. We looked in the front cover, and the name of one of my mom's students was in it. So we called his mom and said he had left his book, and his mom said, "Oh, he meant to do that. We do that with books we don't like - we leave them on people's porches."
I thought to myself, what a crazy thing to do! Usually, you want to spread good word about a book you do like, not pawn off a crappy book on someone else! Secondly, what does that teach your kid?? That just because he doesn't like a book, that it can just be tossed away? Not to mention it looked like it had been given by the boy's grandparents. Give it to GoodWill or something.
Anyway, as a book-lover, that just didn't sit right with me!
