Forum Search Tips Close

Basics

  1. Search syntax is similar to Google searches.
  2. Words shorter than 4 characters are ignored.
  3. Searches are NOT case-sensitive.
  4. Automatic 'and' queries: The search will only return pages that include all of your search terms.
  5. Only the body of the post is searched by default. Use the Advanced search to also search by subject.
  6. Word variation/stemming is currently not supported. For example, if you search for acting or acted, the search will not return results for act.

Phrase Searches

Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms. E.g. "cool video games"

Negative Terms

If your search term has more than one meaning (bass, for example, could refer to fishing or music) you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid. For example, here's how you'd find pages about bass-heavy lakes, but not bass-heavy music: bass -music

Hi, Tammy. ;) I've been a fan since forever and I like asking questions, so bear with me.

    - Can you give me a rough estimate on the ages and age differences between the current generation of Conte kids?

I know that Kally and Kel are roughly the same age and Roald is a year older than Kally, but the rest? (Liam, Lianne, Jasson, and Vania?) I'm no mathematician, but I'm curious.

    - When Kalasin arrived in Carthak, to live under her mother-in-law's wing, what was the Princess' reaction? Do they get along? Or does the Princess see her as an upsurper, this little girl who'll outrank her?

    - The last question related to the Contes, I promise: What do Jon and Thayet think of being grandparents/potential grandparents?

    - Do you know what the state of things are like in Sarain, currently? *curious*

    - And Buri:

    - What's she doing now, married to Raoul? She does not seem like the type of woman to sit idle at home and wait for him to stop running around the country. Does she ride with the Own?

    - Any children in Buri's future? If not, I'm not going to be heartbroken, I just wondered if we'd see Mama!Buri at some point.

    - Finally, did Buri take a title upon marrying Raoul? Or is she still just plain Buriram Tourakom? (I can't imagine her being 'my lady'-ed around the country.)

Finally: How is poor Evin Larse managing as Rider Commander?

Thanks for answering my flood of questions. :P

    OpalBlue, hi!

Yikers!  I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to be able to answer all of the RandomBuzzers questions before my time is over!  (I'm leaving for book tour the next day, so it's not like I can hang around after!)

Still, I'll give it the old university try . . .

I know that Kally and Kel are roughly the same age and Roald is a year older than Kally, but the rest? (Liam, Lianne, Jasson, and Vania?) I'm no mathematician, but I'm curious.

Liam is two years younger than Kally, Jasson is a year younger than he is, Lianne is a year younger than Jasson, and Vania is a year younger than Lianne.

    - When Kalasin arrived in Carthak, to live under her mother-in-law's wing, what was the Princess' reaction? Do they get along? Or does the Princess see her as an upsurper, this little girl who'll outrank her?

The Princess, having nagged Kaddar for years to marry, can't hardly complain about Kally being a usurper, but she can and does complain about Kally's lack of manners and decorum.  They fight constantly.  Kally rides astride; she still forgets her veil more often than not; she is seen outside her home far more often than is seemly; she refuses to let her mother-in-law rule her in most things; she won't let her mother-in-law choose her clothes unless it's for state functions or meeting stuffy older Carthaki nobility or tribes (when she quite surprisingly listens to all her mother-in-law was to say); she spends too much time in the stables, kitchens, and the local villages, and spends too much of the estate money on the servants and villagers; she has actually started schools on the estates, the palace grounds, and in Thak City; the Princess's idiot son is absolutely besotted with the foreigner; and truly, the Princess would wash her hands of the foreigner, except she has produced the Princess's grandson, who they both adore, and there are hopes that another child is due.

    - The last question related to the Contes, I promise: What do Jon and Thayet think of being grandparents/potential grandparents?

They absolutely love it, except for the feeling old part.  They don't let the feeling old part bother them for very long.  They can spend time with grandkids (except Kally and Kaddar's) that they couldn't with their kids, and they can buy toys for the grandkids.  Thayet and Onua are breeding a particular line of ponies for the royal grandchildren.

    - Do you know what the state of things are like in Sarain, currently? *curious*

About ten years ago Thayet's father was overthrown (and executed) by one of his nobles, who took the crown, made peace with the K'mir (and married a full K'mir), and has been trying to pull the realm out of the mess made by years of civil war.

    - What's she doing now, married to Raoul? She does not seem like the type of woman to sit idle at home and wait for him to stop running around the country. Does she ride with the Own?

Of course she rides with the Own!  Technically she's not supposed to, and technically Raoul is supposed to step down now that he's married, but the men took a vote.  Sometimes she goes out with the Queen and her ladies instead, of course.  She doesn't want Raoul to get spoiled.  And she spends the summer helping to train the Riders.

    - Any children in Buri's future? If not, I'm not going to be heartbroken, I just wondered if we'd see Mama!Buri at some point.

We may, but she's in her late thirties at the end of the Trickster books.  It won't be as easy for her as it is for younger women to get pregnant.  And she won't want to do it while they're on the road as much as they are.

    - Finally, did Buri take a title upon marrying Raoul? Or is she still just plain Buriram Tourakom? (I can't imagine her being 'my lady'-ed around the country.)

She didn't take it; she married it.  She's a "my lady" whether she likes it: Lady Buriram of Goldenlake and Malory's Peak.

Finally: How is poor Evin Larse managing as Rider Commander?

Poor?  Evin loves it!  He's gotten more Players in, and they are introducing psychological warfare, also known as "messing with their heads", to the Riders!

I hope that satisfies your curiosity, at least for now!

Thank you very much, Tammy. ;) You're doing your best to answer all of our crazy questions.

    You. Are. Awesome. :D

And I laughed at 'The Princess' idiot son is absolutely besotted with the foreigner.' Hee. Nice insight into Kaddar's relationship with his mother in that line.

Oh wow! What is Kally and Kaddar's son called? (and when was he born!? I must've missed the birth notice... plus Lisa told me to tell you she wants to update the timeline! :p)

Katty, I think the birth of Kally and Kaddar's son was mentioned on Sheroes somewhere... so, it's what we call quasi-canon. And I don't think he has a name yet.

Tammy? Does he have a name?

I'm aware of what quasi canon is but thanks. I just hadnt come across anything regarding his name/birthday. Which is why I was asking.

Doh. *facepalm* I think this one of those 'the Internet fails at being a good replacement for face to face communication' moments.

Also, why I shouldn't post things when not awake.

What I meant was that since Kally and Kaddar's son hasn't appeared in any book and I only recall seeing him mentioned on the Internet somewhere as 'unnamed son'... I don't think he was ever given a name anywhere that I could link to - eg. outside of Tammy's head.

I would presume that he was born sometime after or during one of the Trickster books, since we only learn of Kally being Empress of Carthak from Kyprioth during TC.

Aww...the Kally stuff is so cute! Yay for Buri riding with the Own! :D Though I like that she's keeping a hand in with the Riders. :D

I thought that Raould was able to stay in after marriage anyways, as Knight Commander? :S Cos I recall Flyndan saying something like that in Squire when Raoul is carrying on about the matchmaking mothers. :S And y'know, I've always liked the idea of Kel being the next Knight Commander of the Own (even if it's not all that likely). ^.^
