Hey Tammy... another question, I'm sorry!
What was Alanna's mother's name and what Fief was she from?
Thanks :)

Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms. E.g. "cool video games"
If your search term has more than one meaning (bass, for example, could refer to fishing or music) you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid. For example, here's how you'd find pages about bass-heavy lakes, but not bass-heavy music: bass -music
I thought that Trebond was where Alana's mother's from. It says she was the parent that Alanna and Thom inherited the gift from, I think. But we see their gift (purple) used by Sir Trebond in Bloodhound ^_^ I'm probably missing something, though

If we're operating by conventional means - the female takes the male's name/fief upon marriage, Alanna's mother wasn't a Trebond.
Maybe she got her Gift's strength from her mother, but the colour from Lord Alan?

What was Alanna's mother's name and what Fief was she from?
Her name was Marinie of Tasride.

Or I made a mistake, or (more likely) Trebond married with Tasride during the 200 years before Alanna was born.

Oooooh. So she'd be an ancestor of Seaver's?
Not direct ancestor, since her only kids are Alanna and Thom. But a great-aunt or something, probably.

No - it's a mess. :P If you want readable info, try the Tortallan Timeline.
Or the Words of Tamora Pierce site. I threw my sheet together for quick reference when writing.

In AtFA Alanna basically says that her fatherwas gifted - something along the lines of 'her father was upset that his and her mothers gift didn't save her mother' so its very possible that they inherited the gift (and its purple colour) from their father.

After his wife died giviing birth to Alanna and Thom, Lord Alan swore off the Gift?
That would explain Alanna's issues with using her own magic early on.

Yeah, Alanna says that in A:tFA while talking to Duke Gareth. (Pretty sure it was Duke Gareth, suppose it might have been Roger.) Something about "he thought their Gifts should have saved her and after she did he swore he'd never use his Gift again, and we weren't to use ours." Don't have my books right now or I'd check the exact quote, *headdesk*

Yes, she would have been Seaver's great-aunt.
