Forum Search Tips Close

Basics

  1. Search syntax is similar to Google searches.
  2. Words shorter than 4 characters are ignored.
  3. Searches are NOT case-sensitive.
  4. Automatic 'and' queries: The search will only return pages that include all of your search terms.
  5. Only the body of the post is searched by default. Use the Advanced search to also search by subject.
  6. Word variation/stemming is currently not supported. For example, if you search for acting or acted, the search will not return results for act.

Phrase Searches

Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms. E.g. "cool video games"

Negative Terms

If your search term has more than one meaning (bass, for example, could refer to fishing or music) you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid. For example, here's how you'd find pages about bass-heavy lakes, but not bass-heavy music: bass -music

I've been totally out of the groove with ARCs and new interesting books since i've started college but I've got to make an order with the Border's website so I need some suggestions! I have no idea what has come out in the past six months lol. I've just finished reading the first Gemma Doyle book and I'm getting the other two with my order. But I mostly like science-fiction, I love The Hunger Games books, and other "post-apocalyptic" worlds, also sci-fi mysteries, true crimes, books set in the future, and such. I love Eragon but i'm not particularly into fantasy, I like things with SOME realism.

    SO, any suggestions?

Also you can take a look at my up-to-date bookshelf to see what other kinds of things i've read if that helps you.

    thank

I checked out your bookshelf it seems to me you have pretty good taste. I'm also a bit into the sci-fi books. I saw you like Uglies, I love that book and you probably know this but there are 3 more books in the series. Some good reads are All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab, it's sorta cold case meets veronica mars. Maximum Ride by James Patterson, way sci-fi with lots of action. Gone by Michael Grant, a great sci-fi book, my friend who hates reading actually made it through this one and loved it. Good luck book hunting :D

I'm a fan of the firebirds books,  Firebirds Soaring and Firebirds Rising are the two that I've read. They're a series of short stories from many different author, mostly fantasy but a few of them are more realistic. Most of the authors that write the stories are pretty well known too.

Exodus by Julie Bertagna sounds like the type of book that you are looking for. It is set in a post-apocalyptic where global warming gets so extreme that the icecaps start to melt. Mara's island is drowning in the ever rising ocean, and she must evacuate her fellow island citizens to safe land. The only sanctuary is the New World city, a giant city in the sky called New Mungo. However, New Mungo's walls are closed, and they won't let the refugees in. Mara must find a way to save the people of her island.
