The October Country
By Ray Bradbury

This is a collection of 19 short stories from the genius that is Ray Bradbury (author of "Fahrenheit 451"). They range from science fiction to more realistic, and each one is a unique, separate piece of art. Mummies, skeletons, mysterious jars, flying men, a painted monocle, all are part of this wonderful little book. "The Next in Line", a story featuring Mexican mummies, is not meant to be read at 1:00 AM, when your mind is more prone to believe the unbelievable...it had me looking into all the corners, lying awake in my bed with horribly precise images floating through my brain. The imagery in all these stories is amazing. It makes you feel like you are a character, makes you feel the same emotions. And you gotta love Mr. Bradbury's poetical writing style. It's the thing that made me fall in love with his work in the first place (I've made it my goal to collect every book he ever wrote). That and his diverse characters - no two alike, all with very complex emotions. And yet it all seems so real. The stories may be short, but each one leaves an effect on you, as much as any novel. One of the things I love (and hate) most, is how he ends the story indefinitely, so it leaves you wondering what happened afterward. It's final, but not.

Summary of my rather rambling review?

This book has it all - love, hate, sci-fi, horror, a few vampires. All that combined with great writing. What more could one want? 5/5 stars.
