Romance in the Summer Air

Jul 2, 2009

It's been really fun getting to know your favorite things about the summer and all the shows and concerts you're looking forward to seeing but it's time to get into the romance of it all. Summer can be a fun time to go out, hang out with friends, and perhaps along the way fall madly in love even if it only lasts for the summer season. If you've seen Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, then you know that summer lovin' can be a blast. If you've read the excerpt for The Treasure Map of Boys then you know that Ruby is not having a blast and in fact has run into a few complications.

It's kind of fun to think about the perfect setting and ideal way of falling in love. Perhaps you'll be jogging in the park, drop your iPod, and the perfect someone will pick it up for you and spark a great conversation. Maybe one of your closest friend's cousin is visiting from a far away country and sparks fly when you meet. What's your ideal setting? Share with us your ideas for the perfect summer romance!

This guy in my ceramics class finally asked me out, and it was really perfect.  There's this place where there's a path down the hillside behind the ceramics studio and at the bottom, there's a place to sit.  Everybody calls it the pottery graveyard, because people put all the pieces they don't like down there.  It's kind of an art exhibit, because some of them are really cool (artists are notorious for not liking their own work, even if it's great and others love it) and you get to sit there and look at it all.  There's even a kind of "give a penny, take a penny" concept to it, because it there's something you really like, you can take it and leave something of yours behind in exchange.  Anyways (sorry to get off topic), he took me down there because I hadn't seen it, and while we were sitting on the bench, he asked me if I'd want to go out with him.  It was so funny, though, because we both have Aspergers, which kind of limits your social perceptions, and neither one of us could tell if the other one had been flirting or not (we both were).  I was glad he got up the nerve to ask!

I think if I were to have a summer romance (hah...not going to happen), I'd like to meet a guy at a library. Maybe find a few books that we both liked, or something. I never see any guys read anymore, I don't know what's up with that. But I know that if something like that were going to happen, it would have to be in a library; because that's where I'm spending most of my summer! :)

I can't believe it's already July... yay! Summer reading! *goes to read*

If I'd ever meet my dream guy, I'd want to meet him at church. But I also think it would be really cool if we met during work at the local grocery store and he'd help me pick up something I dropped .... Oh, Headbuzzer! Why'd you have to ask a question like that? You're making me drool!

the perfect summer romance, in my opinion, would consist of a dance. A small one, conscious of my religion. It would be in a large dance hall and i would be sitting on a couch reading a novel and a boy would notice the book and the girl reading it and come and ask me about it. we would dance for hours and end up together for the whole summer. perfect...<3

Meeting a guy who works at the aquarium who shows me the behind-the-scenes of the dolphin and penguin tanks. When we resurface after taking samples from the coral to make sure it's healthy, we'll take off our SCUBA mouthpieces and share a floating kiss. He'll cheesily say that I make his heart swim.
