Halloween is just around the corner and that means ghosts, goblins, and all things scary! I have to admit that I'm a bit of a scaredy cat. Horror films and books terrify me and I find Haunted Houses equally as scary and unnecessary.
Some people crave the thrill and excitement of being scared. I am not one of these people. Despite my reservations, each year when October 31st rolls around, I always manage to put on a brave face and get into the spirit. This year I am even thinking about conquering my irrational fears and picking up a scary book.
What about you? Do you like scary reads? Which ones are your favorites? I am looking for recommendations!

SakuraGirl:
I don't like scary books, movies, events either! But Halloween is still my favorite holiday. I think it's because of the plethora of candy and the free card opportunity to dress up as anything. The scariest book I've read in years is The Maze Runner...and it wasn't really that scary.

Hmmm... I'd have to agree with SakuraGirl in that I don't particularly enjoy scary movies or events. I usually don't pick up scary books, so I don't feel I've read enough of them to pass judgment on them either way. I think the scariest book I've read (scary in the creepy sort of sense) is Bonechiller. The monster really gives me the creeps every time I imagine it being real... But the scariest book I've ever read is The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh. It's supposed to be like the book All Quiet on the Western Front except it takes place during the Vietnam war and is written from the perspective of a North Vietnamese soldier. I think what makes this book so scary for me is that the majority of what the author writes is stuff that actually happens in war, and sometimes his descriptions of events or situations get pretty graphic.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth!! I loved it! It's a little creepy, but it's awesome, amazing, fantastic writing. The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray was another good one that I just finished, but FoHaT is still #1.

I'm not a huge fan of scary books much, but one scaryish book I've read is The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz. This woman is being spyed on, but you don't know what for or really who is after her. It's also a touching story though, but a good read.

I haven't read a lot of horror books, they aren't really my thing, but I had a friend reccomended Watchers, by Dean Koontz. I am not much of a horror fan, but this book is awesome. I wasn't to scary, but more suspensful.
GirlwiththeBraids:
I am a big fan of scary movies. My brother and I watch the Sci-Fi channel though the realistic ones (that have the good graphics) are the only kind that make us almost pee in our pants. The movie "Hallowed Ground" freaked us out for days! For Halloween, while my brother and sis go trick or treating, we are going to watch Land of the Lost. It looks hiliarious! I'm psyched for Halloween! :)

I absolutely LOVE horror movies and scary stories. I love the feeling I get when I know something is going to happen, but I still get scared any way. I might be weird, but I enjoy feeling scared. most of the time I don't scream on scarry parts, but there have been times where I have... lol.
Some good scarry stories are by Steven King. However I still enjoy reading some of R.L Stine's fear streets. It might be because they were the first horror books I read.
TheTotalBookNerd: I love Scary reads! Though I don't think I've read any yet... :(
Fay_Bays_Books: I love scary books, scary movies, scary everything. I'm obsessed! lol.
