Random Hour #10: The Ultimate Book

The other day, I was going through some notes from my old film classes (belated spring cleaning, you could say) and came upon a familiar concept: “X meets Y.” Traditionally, film producers use an “X meets Y” format to pitch an idea for a movie (for example, “The Princess Diaries” meets “Spiderman” would give you a pretty interesting and vivid idea of what the movie is about). But I started thinking—wouldn’t it be fun to do the same for books? Harry Potter meets Likely Story? Twilight meets Stargirl? Imagine the possibilities…

Obviously, it’s doubtful that J.K. Rowling and David Van Etten will team up and write a book together, but it’s still fun to think about. Personally, I’d love to read a book that was a combination of Madapple and Sweet Valley High. I know the combination is a little jarring, but I’d love to see how the Wakefield sisters cope in such a drastically different world. I could see this either as a funny fish-out-of-water scenario or as a deeper, more serious and more complex journey as the Wakefield sisters interact with Aslaug and grow as human beings.

What about you—what two books would you like to see combined to create your “ultimate book”?

Don't know.  The Children of the Red King Series (Charlie Bone) and maybe Keys to the Kingdom Series.

When I read a book I am transported to that new world.  Each book is a new world, and I have problems just trying to think of combining two totally different amazing worlds into one.  Just another one of my quirks I guess.  ( I seem to be quite full of them )

How about Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen meets Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer? Don't know how that would work exactly... but it'd be cool! Smile

I 100% support Twilight meets Stargirl. That would be hilarious. Those books are 2 of my favorites. I also would like to see Jumper meets Twilight. I want to know whether Edward would win a race with Davy. That would be a fair race!Smile

Eragon meets LotR. It'd be interesting. I just wanna see what would happen when Paolini's elves meet up with the originals, and how Sauron reacts to the dragons! Also maybe Redwall (any/all of the books) meets the Warriors series. Mice vs. cats, who wins??

It'd be really fun to have the two worlds Tamora Pierce has created meet each other, the world of Tortall and the world of Emelan. Tongue out
