Woohoo! We feel so lucky that we were able to chat with Elsie Chapman this week about her debut novel, Dualed! We were so glad to see that people were just as excited as we were to chat with her!
Here's what we learned about Else:
- Elsie wears a friendship bracelet made by her daughter - she considers it a lucky charm
- Elsie was inspired to write Dualed after hearing her son ask about doppelgangers
- If Elsie had an Alt, she'd try to outrun her, as she's a runner
- Elsie recommends Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking series for dystopian lovers
- If Elsie could bring back any character from her book, it'd be Chord!
- Dualed's sequel Divided, publishes in 2014!
- Elsie reads a lot of manga
- Kersh is meant to be a future version of our world
- When suffering writer's block, Elsie just pushes through and keeps writing
- Currently, Elsie thinks that Dualed will be a duology
- Elsie's strategy for taking out her Alt would be observing her from a distance before a sneak attack
- Given the choice, Elyse prefers: Harry Potter to The Hunger Games; Dystopian to Paranormal; and Justin Bieber to Taylor Swift
- Elsie's first draft took five weeks, revisions took five months
- Elsie's favorite scene to write was when West first sees her Alt
- Elsie loved reading VC Andrews and Stephen King as a teen
- Three things Elsie needs when writing: music, iced coffee, and Nutella
- In college, Elsie majored in English and minored in Psychology
- Some of Elsie's favorite movies: LOTR, the Bourne series, Inception, The Hangover, Aliens, Moneyball
