ARC Giveaway Friday - The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin - And the winners are...

Jan 29, 2010

Today's ARC Giveaway is The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin by Josh Berk. For your chance to win, read the following description for the book and at the end we will give you instructions on how you can enter! Here is the description for The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin:

"Being a hefty, deaf newcomer almost makes Will Halpin the least popular guy at Coaler High. But when he befriends the only guy less popular than him, the dork-namic duo has the smarts and guts to figure out who knocked off the star quarterback. Will can’t hear what’s going on, but he’s a great observer. So, who did it? And why does that guy talk to his fingers? And will the beautiful girl ever notice him? (Okay, so Will’s interested in more than just murder . . .)

Those who prefer their heroes to be not-so-usual and with a side of wiseguy will gobble up this witty, geeks-rule debut."

To enter for your chance to win a copy of The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin, either write in the comments section who your favorite geek-heroes are OR submit a question for Josh Berk on his forum here (he'll be joining us on February 22!) Winners will be announced on Monday.

AND THE 5 RANDOMLY SELECTED WINNERS ARE:

sunshine_09: Hello there, Josh! My question is: What was your favorite childhood book?

teenlib: My favorite geek-hero is Antsy Bonnano from Neal Shusterman't Antsy Does Time and The Schwa Was Here.  These are two of my favorite books because I think Antsy is such a great character!

sunshinegirl94: Hello Josh Beck,
Welcome to Randombuzzers! My question is what was it like for your main character who you're writing about to be deaf? Hearing is a common sense that writers usually use to describe things with, and not being able to do this must have been a challenge.

hallia: Hmm...I'm going to say Artie from Warehouse 13. His whole job, spending his days among dangerous historical artifacts, the way he gets excited about a new artifact and goes off on a bit of a rant about the object and what it could be related to.

harrypotterluver: My favorite geek hero is Napoleon Dynamite! Enough said:)

What timing!  I'm reading "Geektastic" right now.

Does Frankie Landau-Banks count as a geek?  If so, she's my favorite geek-heroine.  If not, how about Bertram Wilberforce Wooster?  Wodehouse's popular character may not be geeky in terms of knowing something really in depth, but he's just so inept but good-hearted.  Having Jeeves around to help him out doesn't hurt.

I would have to say that Steve Jobs is my geek hero. He's made electronics cool, and without him, I wouldn't have my beloved Ipod.

I always think of Sherlock Holmes as a little bit of a geek--he spends a lot of time thinking and puzzling things out and only a little time in action, if that makes sense.

My favorite geek-hero is George "Sticky" Washington from the Mysterious Benedict Society.  He is a walking encyclopedia, and he looks the part, too!

Clark Kent is a geek ^_^. Then of course he becomes the smooth Superman, but I prefer to think all the great superheros are secretly geeks ^_^.

Hmm, geek hero. There are so many, but one of the really great geeks is Seth from Ted Dekker's Blink.  He's got like a 163 IQ and a degree from Berkley, and is now on the run trying to help an Afghan girl escape her future husband.

Geek Heroes are win! Well.... for TV shows... Chuck and Doctor Who are both super awesome and fantabulous. And for book Geek Heroes, Im a fan of any main character in John Green's novels. They aren't technically heroes, but they are amazing and nerdy and I love them.

Ok.. my favorite geek hero? Well I love the show Chuck! and the main character, Chuck (played by Zachary Levi) is just hilarious, because he is the total nerd but can still kick major butt as a spy!! There are just so many, cause then there are characters like Eli from Stargate Universe. He pretty much embodies nerd/geekness, but still manages to save everyone multiple times!! And he is always making Star Trek, Star Wars, Back to the Future, video game references! So awe-mazing! Chuck and Eli. Hands down!

Actually, Sherlock spends a lot of time in action, with his boxing/swordfighting/etc. So I don't know about geeky, but he is definitely eccentric!

My favorite geek hero is Nicholas Cage's character on

National Treasure- Ben Gates. Ben is scary smart,

especially when it comes to U.S history.

His character proves how hard work and

determination does pay off, and smarts

    are always a good thing.

Nicholas Cage in National Treasure is deffinately one of my favorite geeky heros, and i love his geeky sidekick in that movie, (whats his name?), but Hermoine is great too.But my all time favorite geek hero would probably have to be Casey from Evolution, Me, and Other Freaks of Nature. He's not technically a 'hero' but he is Mena's hero. He helps her through the rough times.

My favorite geek hero of all time is Connor Temple from the show Primeval. He's really smart and knows practically everything except how to be "cool" :)

With books I have so many geeky heroes I can hardly even count them all.  I guess today's pick would be Mia from Princess Diaries because I kind of feel like I'm fumbling through life and it's nice to think things will turn out.  (That's just for today, though.  My favorite geek will probably change again by next week.)

With TV, I think my current favorite geek is Tofer Brink from Dollhouse.  He's completely hysterical.
