I once saw an Oprah episode with a woman who made a list of what she was thankful for every single night before bed. She claimed that performing this simple act each night had enriched her life and made her a much happier person. While I have to admit I was a bit intrigued by this and could totally see how focusing on the blessings rather than the negatives could have a positive effect on one’s life, I was by no means planning to commit to this time consuming process. Here this woman was going on and on about how this caused her to lead a more stress free life and I couldn’t help but feel that having to write down what I was thankful for every single night would just be another item on my ever-growing to-do list and make me, well.. Stressed.
Let’s face it, sometimes we can get so caught up with our everyday busy schedules that we tend forgot to take the time to stop and smell the roses. So while I don’t necessarily feel the need to do this every single night, I do feel it important to do once in a while and this is why Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I see absolutely nothing wrong with a day designated each year where you don’t have to work or go to school; you can eat as much as you want without feeling bad about it, and most importantly you are encouraged to focus on the many blessings in your life and why you are thankful for them.
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
